The most expensive PTO is the wrong one — ordered by appearance, fitted once, then replaced. Three checks before you order prevent almost every mis-purchase.
Step 1: Confirm the transmission model
The PTO mounts on the transmission, not the truck. Open the transmission identification plate or check the vehicle documents and record the exact model — including the version code. "It's a 9-speed" is not a model number. If the plate is unreadable, photograph the gearbox from several angles and let the supplier identify it.
Step 2: Verify the mounting interface
Count the bolts, measure the opening and note the orientation (top, side or rear opening). An 8-bolt PTO will not fit a 10-bolt opening, and an opening marked "left side" needs a mirror-image unit. This single check eliminates the majority of wrong-fit returns.
Step 3: Check the output specifications
Match the output to what you are driving: direction of rotation, speed ratio, flange standard (SAE A, B and so on) and shaft or gear output. Then verify the torque rating against your pump's demand — with margin for start-up.
Ordering with confidence
Send those three items — transmission model, opening details, output requirements — with your order, and any competent supplier can confirm the right PTO in minutes. PFM's engineers verify every enquiry against the fitment list before quoting.
